“ The work undertaken by The Colvin Fire Prevention Trust to reduce the risk of fire in buildings of historic interest and country properties is to be applauded. The Trust has held a series of successful seminars over the past four years and is now moving forward by offering a more interactive and readily available vehicle for accessing their invaluable advice and information.
I wish the Trust every success with this most worthwhile initiative and am delighted to be associated with its work.”
Sir Ken Knight CBE QFSM DL, Chief Fire & Rescue Adviser.
October 2007
The Colvin Fire Prevention Trust was formed as a result of the tragic death of my parents Michael and Nichola Colvin and the total destuction of our home at Tangley in Hampshire by fire.
This, like many other fires, could have been prevented and with better planning the aftermath easier to deal with.
A simple smoke detector could have saved the lives of my parents but may not have saved either the house or the contents. These assets are not only the memories of a family but also part of our country´s heritage.
The aim of the Trust is to introduce the owners of country houses not only to methods of fire prevention but also all the issues of recovery, restoration and insurance that are appropriate for their type of property.
I cannot undo what is done at Tangley but I would like others to learn from my family´s misfortune.
