Points to Remember
Make sure your insurance keeps up-to-date. As your life progresses, you may buy new things, inherit valuable items, improve your home or simply own something that appreciates in value.

It is therefore essential that you review your insurance cover regularly to make sure it keeps pace with the value of your home and possessions, and let your broker or Hiscox know of any changes that may affect your insurance cover provided under your policy.

Possible relevant changes include:

* Planning to make improvements to your home (if you do, it's essential you let us know before building work starts or any contract is signed)
* Acquisitions, through inheritance, gifts or purchase
* Becoming responsible for the property of others
* Moving home
* Transportation of insured contents - such as taking your possessions from one country to another
* Storage of part or all of your contents at a different address
* Your house being empty for long periods, or rented out to a third party
* Using your property for business purposes (other than as a home office)
* Allowing paying guests to stay in your house
* Any deterioration in the property's condition, such as subsidence, landslip or heave
* Any change in your security arrangements such as the police withdrawing support for your intruder alarm
* A significant change to your or a family member's occupation or profession
* You or a family member living at the property being convicted of, or having a prosecution pending, for any offence (excluding driving offences).

Any such changes may affect your policy, so it's vital that you notify us or your broker of them in good time.
